Doosan confirmed to advance to postseason… Return to fall baseball after 2 years

The professional baseball Doosan Bears, led by coach Lee Seung-yeop, returned to fall baseball after two years.

Doosan won 3-2 in the away game against the LG Twins in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League held at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on the 14th.

As a result, Doosan secured at least 5th place regardless of the remaining games and entered the final postseason. On the other hand, the KIA Tigers, who had maintained a glimmer of hope by chasing Doosan, suffered the bitter taste of elimination as 6th place was confirmed.

Doosan was desperate… Fall baseball’s magic number ‘0’

메이저놀이터Doosan, which was only one win away from confirming its advancement to the postseason, had a chance with 2 outs and 3rd base on hits by Yang Eui-ji and Yang Seok-hwan in the top of the second inning, and Kang Seung-ho hit an infield hit in front of the shortstop. They brought in a runner and took a 1-0 lead.

However, LG easily tied the game in the bottom of the second inning when Austin Dean hit a solo home run off Doosan starter Brandon Waddell.

The two teams’ batting lineups were silent for a while, but they got an opportunity in the top of the 7th inning when Kim Jae-hwan went to second base due to an opponent’s error. Doosan, desperate to score, scored with difficulty as Kang Seung-ho’s sacrifice bunt was followed by Kim Jae-ho’s squeeze bunt.

However, this time, LG tied the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the 8th inning when Lee Jae-won hit a solo home run by hitting Doosan reliever Jeong Cheol-won’s slider.

Doosan, who left numerous bases unused and failed to score a large number of runs, finally scored the winning run in the top of the 9th inning with his unique tenacity. With a chance with 2 outs and 3rd base, Kang Seung-ho hit a timely hit to the right, taking the lead back to 3-2.

In the bottom of the 9th inning, Doosan’s Kim Kang-ryul was on the verge of reaching first and second base with no outs due to LG’s persistent pursuit, but Kim Myeong-shin took the mound and caught all three batters with an outfield fly ball, securing the victory after much hardship.

Seung-yeop Lee, successful debut as head coach… Will the sensation continue?

As a result, the top five teams that advanced to the postseason of this season’s professional baseball were all confirmed.
LG ranked first in the regular season for the first time in 29 years and advanced directly to the Korean Series, and KT Wiz took second place and earned a playoff ticket.

The three teams – SSG Landers, NC Dinos and Doosan, who are tied for 3rd place – have secured at least 5th place, but they continue to fight for the rankings in the remaining games to enter the postseason at a higher place.

Doosan fell to 9th place, the lowest since its founding last year, and failed to participate in the postseason for the first time in 7 years.
In the end, Doosan parted ways with coach Kim Tae-hyung, who led the team’s golden era, and handed over the baton to coach Lee Seung-yeop, who played an active role as a ‘national hitter’ during his time as a player.

Coach Lee Seung-yeop, who was labeled a ‘beginner’ because he had no leadership experience, had to go through a harsh start as Doosan was pushed out of the top 5.

However, in July, they created a sensation by winning 11 consecutive wins, the most in club history.
Although Doosan faced repeated crises throughout the season due to its fluctuating performance, it eventually advanced to the postseason again after two years with a winning percentage of over .500.

Attention is being paid to whether Coach Lee Seung-yeop, who gave the team the great gift of advancing to the postseason in his first season in office, will continue his sensational run in fall baseball as well.
