Head coach Park Jung-jeong was pleased with the team’s first Jones Cup win.
Busan BNK Thumb won the 42nd William Jones Cup against Iran 87-44 on Friday at Heping Gymnasium in Taipei, Taiwan. The team dominated from the start of the game and never relinquished the lead, winning by 43 points.
After the game, BNK head coach Park Jung-jeong said, “It was the first time BNK played in the Jones Cup. As we represented Korea, we wanted to show a good performance with pride. I think today’s game was a test to see how we will play in the remaining games.”
On the day, BNK hit 12 three-pointers to attack Iran’s perimeter defense. Lee So-hee (20 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists), Kim Ji-eun (17 points, 2 rebounds), and Han Um-ji (11 points, 1 rebound) were the standout performers.
“We came to Taiwan beforehand and played a scrimmage against Kesey Life, and I told the girls to show them the kind of basketball we play. I think they did a good job of that today. The only thing that was disappointing was that the sixth men looked nervous. Through the training camp in Taiwan and the Jones Cup, we tried to develop our sixth men besides the top five, but I think the sixth men were nervous today, and that was disappointing.” Park said.온라인카지노
“But it was their first international match. I think inexperienced players are bound to be nervous. I think the nerves will be resolved naturally if we focus on our promised play in the remaining matches. I’m emphasizing a lot of basic things to the players. I’m asking them to focus on rebounding, defense, and concentration. When you do that, the nerves will come naturally,” he added.
With a comfortable first win under their belts, BNK will play the second game of the tournament against Taiwan B, a team comprised of Taiwanese national team regular players, at the same venue on Saturday afternoon.
“Our goal is to win the tournament,” Park said. I hope it will be a tournament where each player can grow further.”
